Among the international structures of the legal profession, the Council of Bars and Law Societies of Europe (CCBE) is undoubtedly the most important.
Founded in 1960, the CCBE is a non-profit international association. It brings together the bars of 45 countries and thus represents, through its members, over 1,000,000 European lawyers.
It represents the common interests of European bars before European and international institutions and regularly ensures liaison between its members and these institutions, international organizations, and other legal bodies worldwide.
Its main missions are:
- regulating the legal profession,
- defending and promoting the rule of law,
- defending human rights,
- upholding democratic values,
- ensuring access to justice,
- digitizing the judicial process,
- protecting clients by promoting and defending the core values of the profession.
Among its achievements, the European Code of Conduct for Lawyers applies in relations between European lawyers.
AVOCATS.BE is represented by delegates and committee members elected by the general assembly.
